At this point, I would say we can finally get to the point, so to speak, and discover how to download 7-Zip for free on Windows.

First, open the browser you usually use for browsing the Internet on your PC (e.g., Chrome) and connect to the official 7-Zip site.

Now, click on the Download link for the Windows version you find in the sections Download 7-Zip [version] for Windows x64 (64-bit) or Download 7-Zip [version] for other Windows platforms (32-bit x86 or ARM64), choosing between 64-bit x64, 64-bit ARM64, and 32-bit x86. Then wait for the download to start and complete.

To use it for decompression tasks, you just need to right-click on the relevant compressed archive, select the Show more options and/or 7-Zip item from the context menu, and choose your preferred option between Extract Here to extract the files to the current location, Extract files to manually specify the destination folder, or Extract to “[compressed archive name]” to extract the files in the same location as the compressed archive into a folder named after the compressed archive.

If instead of extracting a compressed archive you just want to open it to view its contents, know that you can do that. To achieve this, right-click on the relevant compressed archive, choose the Show more options and/or 7-Zip item from the context menu, and select the Open option.

Regarding compression operations, instead, select the files of your interest, right-click on any of them, choose the Show more options and/or 7-Zip item from the context menu, and then select the Add to archive option.

In the window that is subsequently shown, use the text fields, menus, and various available options to define the name to assign to the compressed archive, the format of it, the level and the method of compression, to decide whether to protect the compressed archive with a password, etc. Finally, click the OK button to generate the compressed archive with the previously selected files.

Also, related to compression operations, be aware that from the above context menu visible after selecting the files of interest, you can also choose various quick actions that you might find useful, such as the ability to compress the files and send them directly via email, or to create a compressed archive in 7z format with the same name as the location where they are found, etc.

All the operations I described can also be done by directly opening 7-Zip and using the buttons and menus available in its window. If you prefer to proceed this way, start the program by selecting the relevant shortcut in the Windows Start menu and, in the window that appears on your desktop, select the files to act on by pressing the Add button, click the Extract button to extract compressed archives, etc.

Additionally, as I mentioned earlier, the 7-Zip interface is automatically translated into Italian, but if you wish, you can change the language used to another. To do this, start the program as previously explained, click on the Tools menu present at the top of the 7-Zip window, press the Options item in it, and in the new screen displayed, select the Language tab, then choose the language of your interest via the appropriate drop-down menu and press the OK button to save the changes and change the software language.
