Preliminary Operations
Before providing you with all the necessary instructions on how to open iPhone, I think it’s essential to indicate the preliminary operations that you should perform to carry out the procedure in the best possible way. To learn more, keep reading; everything is explained in the following lines.
Check the Warranty
If your iPhone is still under warranty or if AppleCare+ is active on it, opening it will inevitably void the warranty. If you want to avoid this, I recommend you verify whether there’s any type of cover or support available before proceeding with disassembling your iPhone.
To do this, visit the dedicated web page on Apple’s website for checking the warranty status and AppleCare+ activation, enter your device’s serial number in the appropriate field (found in Settings > General > About), and click the Submit button.
On the following page, you’ll see all the details. Additionally, you can check the warranty status through your iPhone by going to Settings > General > About and checking the status next to Limited Warranty/Warranty.
Get Tools and Spare Parts
As mentioned, to open your iPhone, you will also need specific tools that I highly doubt you have at hand. The same applies to the correct spare parts.
For this, you can rely on the Self-Service Repair Store and the website iFixit.
In the first case, it is a third-party supplier authorized by Apple to sell original tools and spare parts. The tools, which you can purchase or rent, and the spare parts are the same as those found in Authorized Apple Service Centers. This ensures higher quality work and maximum compatibility. However, the guides and tools provided are exclusive to the latest iPhone models.
For older iPhone models, iFixit is an excellent resource that details all disassembly operations across various iPhone models and specifies the necessary components. The site is managed by a dedicated team and is filled with images, providing necessary tools for each operation. Most information is in English, but it remains easy to navigate even for those less familiar with the language.
To discover what tools you need for disassembling your iPhone and the correct spare parts, visit the Apple Self-Service Repairs page, select your specific model (e.g., iPhone 15), and you will find a link to the repair manual.
Prepare the Device and the Work Surface
Another crucial step before opening the iPhone is to prepare the device for operation and the workspace to ensure you carry out each step appropriately.
Start by turning off the iPhone by pressing the power button + volume up button for a few seconds until the slider appears on the screen. Wait for a few moments until your iPhone and the device itself turn off.
Once powered down, remove any protective films and cases, as well as the SIM card from its compartment. For remove the SIM card, use the metal clip included in the original packaging.
Afterwards, insert the clip into the small hole found on the right side of the device, applying firm pressure until the SIM tray pops out.
Once removed, you can place your iPhone on a well-lit and level surface. I recommend cleaning the area with a damp cloth to eliminate dust and let it dry. It’s also helpful to use a soft cloth to prevent scratching while working on the iPhone.
Open the iPhone
Now let’s get to the core issue and understand the steps needed to open your iPhone. I suggest considering the step-by-step instructions available on the mentioned websites.
The steps are the same on both websites: visit the home page using the provided link, select your iPhone model, then click on the guide name relevant to the device part you intend to work on and follow the detailed instructions on how to open the iPhone.
