How to Sync iPad with iCloud

If you want to sync your iPad so that photos, documents, and other data from specific applications are automatically available on both your iPad and other Apple devices linked to the same account, all you need to do is activate the sync via iCloud on each individual device. You will find everything explained in detail below.

How to Sync iPad with iPhone

To sync iPad with iPhone, iCloud must be enabled on both devices and the data sync that you wish to share between your iPad and iPhone must be enabled.

First, take your iPad, access the Settings of iPadOS by tapping on the gear icon and tap on your name displayed at the top left. If your name is not shown but you see Apple Account, it means you haven’t logged in with your Apple account yet: in this case, my guide on how to set up your Apple Account may be useful to you.

At this point, tap on iCloud and you can begin to activate the sync for the data of interest by pressing the available options (e.g. Photos, Drive, Notes, Messages, etc.) in the Save to iCloud box. To sync apps not listed in that box, press on Show All to display the complete list of apps that allow syncing via iCloud.

Once you have completed this on your iPad, you will need to proceed in the same way on your iPhone by enabling the options you have previously activated on your iPad.

To better understand, let’s take a practical example of syncing the Calendar on iPad and iPhone. In iOS and iPadOS Settings, tap on your name and go to the iCloud section. Then select Show All and in the new screen, tap on Calendar on iCloud.

At this point, move the slider for the Use on this iPad option from OFF to ON and then repeat the procedure on your iPhone, enabling the Use on this iPhone option.

From this moment on, all events available in the Calendar app, including those you will add in the future, will be synced via iCloud and automatically available on both iPad and iPhone.

If your intention is to sync iPad with iPad, you should know that in this case, it is also sufficient to access the Settings of iPadOS on both tablets and activate the iCloud sync for the data and apps you are interested in.

Keep in mind that the procedure is similar to the one I just showed you and, consequently, you can follow the instructions to sync iPad with iPhone.

How to Sync iPad with PC Windows

If you’re wondering whether it’s possible to sync iPad with PC Windows, you will be pleased to know that the answer is yes using the iCloud app for PCs equipped with Windows 10 and later (e.g. Windows 11).

After downloading and starting the app in question, click the Start button and log in with your Apple account, entering your details in the Email or phone number and Password fields and clicking the Log In button.

Once done, you can configure iCloud by choosing which data to sync: in particular, you can activate the sync of iCloud Photos on Microsoft Photos by clicking the Sync Photos button, iCloud Drive by pressing on the Sync Files option, passwords and bookmarks by selecting Sync Passwords and Sync Bookmarks, and syncing iCloud calendars and contacts with Microsoft Outlook by clicking on the Sync Calendars and Contacts option.

Note that at this stage of initial configuration, you can also select the Not Now option, which allows you not to activate the synchronization of one or more options.

In any case, on the iCloud main screen, you can activate or deactivate synchronization at any time by clicking on the available options in the Apps using iCloud box and moving the relevant slider to On/Off.

How to Sync iPad with Mac

To sync iPad with Mac, first access the Settings of iPadOS, press on your name, and select the iCloud option, then activate all the options you wish to sync. Keep in mind that if you have already done this to sync iPad with iPhone or another iPad, you do not have to repeat it.

Then click on your name displayed at the top left and select iCloud. Now, you can act directly on the available options in the Save to iCloud box or click the Show All button to view all apps that can be synced.

In both cases, all you need to do is activate the iCloud syncing by moving the slider for the Sync on this Mac/Use on this Mac option to ON for each app you wish to enable for synchronization.

How to Sync iPad with iTunes

Syncing iPad with iTunes is a procedure that allows you to transfer certain files from your computer to your Apple tablet. Usually, this operation is performed to sync music, photos, videos, and various documents (and also to create local backups of iPad).

If you have a Windows PC equipped with Windows 10 or later (e.g. Windows 11), you can use the Apple Devices app that has long replaced iTunes. However, please note that in order to sync music and video, you must also download and install the Apple Music and Apple TV apps. Additionally, you will find it useful to know that to sync photos, the option Photos on iCloud must not be enabled on your iPad.

After downloading all the necessary apps, connect your iPad to the computer using the provided charging cable and launch Apple Devices. Then click the Start button and, if necessary, authorize the connection by clicking the Continue button on the computer and the Authorize button on your iPad’s screen.

Once done, depending on the data you intend to sync, select your option of interest from Music, Movies, TV Shows, Photos, and Files all located in the left sidebar and check the box next to the option to activate the synchronization.

For example, to sync musical tracks, select Music and then check the box next to the Sync music to iPad option. Choose whether to sync the entire music library (Entire Music Library) or individual tracks (Artists, albums, genres, and playlists) by selecting those of interest and, when you’re ready, press the Apply and Sync buttons.

If you have a version of Windows prior to 10, you can still use iTunes, Apple’s historic management program, which works quite similarly to the previously seen application (except for the names and positions of some options). In that case, you can refer to my guide on how to use iTunes.

If, however, you have a Mac, connect your iPad to it using the appropriate cable and authorize the connection by pressing the Authorize button on your iPad’s screen. Then, open Finder by clicking its icon (the smiley face in the Dock) and press the iPad option displayed in the left sidebar near the Locations section.

At this point, by selecting the Music, Movies, TV Shows, Photos, and Files tabs, you can start syncing your data of interest, with the procedure being almost identical to the one I indicated earlier for Windows PCs.

How to Sync iPad with Sky Q

How do you say? Would you like to sync iPad with Sky Q? In that case, you can take advantage of a specific function available in the Sky Go app, Sky’s service that allows access to the content included in your subscription from computer, smartphone, and tablet.

This functionality, simply called Sync to Sky Q, allows you to start watching any content on the television to which Sky Q is connected and continue it at any time on one of the devices where Sky Go has been downloaded and installed, such as an iPad. Additionally, it also allows you to automatically sync recordings from Sky Q to Sky Go.

Before showing you how to activate this option, it will be useful to know that both the Sky Q decoder and your iPad need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Also note that this functionality is available on all Sky Q satellite decoders and Sky Q decoders without a satellite but not on Sky Q Internet decoders.

That said, take your iPad, launch Sky Go, and if you haven’t done so yet, log in with your Sky account, as explained in my guide on how to access Sky Go.

Now, go to the Settings of Sky Go by tapping the gear icon in the top left, and find the Sync to Sky Q option: then, move the related slider to ON and you’re all set.
